Have an exciting and innovative idea that solves a social challenge in Native communities?
We seek motivated and high-potential individuals or teams to join our Innovation Challenge. Applicants should have a business or other socially cultivated idea that solves a challenge on the Navajo Nation or other Southwestern tribal community. The idea should be innovative with the ability to create a sustainable program or a financially viable product or service.
The competition is open to individuals and organizations in the idea phase, startup phase, or mid-growth phase. Applicants should have a primary goal of having a positive impact in their community and be interested in receiving financial assistance, technical support, mentorship, and access to resources to help realize and sustain their idea.
The application opens on January 17, 2017. Applications must be submitted on-line or received via snail mail by March 17, 2017. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
The 10 most promising applications will be invited to participate in Round 2 video application. Video applications must be submitted on-line by May 8, 2017.
Only 6 finalists will be invited to the Navajo Nation to pitch their idea to a panel of judges. The top six finalists will receive:
an opportunity to work with business counselors and communication strategists to refine and improve their idea and their pitch,
an all expense paid trip to the Navajo Nation to pitch their idea to a panel of judges.
The judges will select one cash winner who exhibits the potential, passion, and viability for making change in their community. This winner will receive $5000 to support their idea and everything listed below. There will be three additional winners who will also receive:
1-year of business incubation services from NABIN or the Navajo Technology Innovation Center ($15,000 value).
1-year of access to business mentors, creative mentors, and technical mentors to further your idea,
exposure and recognition for your idea,
potential to access an additional financial investment, dependent on the achievement of key milestones.
