Business Modeling & Planning: The Role of a BMC

Turn Your Business Idea Into a Clear, Workable Plan

A strong business starts with more than a good idea. Understanding how all the pieces of your business fit together can help you plan, grow, and make better decisions.

Join Change Labs for a practical virtual workshop introducing the Business Model Canvas (BMC), a simple, visual tool that helps entrepreneurs organize their business ideas and better understand how their businesses operate. Participants will explore the nine building blocks of a business model, including customers, products and services, revenue, expenses, resources, activities, and partnerships.

Through practical examples, guided discussion, and hands-on activities, attendees will learn how to use the Business Model Canvas to identify opportunities, recognize potential gaps, and create a clearer picture of how their business serves customers and generates income. The session will also explore how the canvas connects to a traditional business plan and can support conversations with business coaches, lenders, and other funding partners. Participants will begin developing or refining a canvas they can continue using as their business grows.

This workshop is designed for aspiring entrepreneurs, early-stage and established business owners, Kinship and NSBCI borrowers, entrepreneurs preparing for future financing opportunities, and anyone looking to strengthen their business planning, operations, and long-term sustainability.

Facilitated by Duane Humeyestewa, NSBCI Technical Assistance Coordinator and Change Labs Business Coach.
